PEPFAR supports host nations' wide-ranging programs to meet the needs of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) affected by the pandemic, as well as people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). As of September 30, 2008, PEPFAR supported care for nearly 9.7 million people, including nearly 4 million OVCs.

In FY2007, PEPFAR provided 30.9 percent of focus country program resources, or $906.5 million, in support of care (including $223 million for counseling and testing programs).

Five-Year Goal in the 15 Focus Countries:

  • Support care for 10 million people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, including orphans and vulnerable children.
Progress Achieved through September 30, 2007:
  • Supported care for nearly 9.7 million people, including care for nearly 4 million orphans and vulnerable children
  • Supported over 57 million counseling and testing sessions to date for men, women and children through fiscal year 2008.
